Peter Warlock (1894 – 1930), who is credited with writing some of the most beautiful carols of the 20th century. Warlock was a fascinating figure; his real name was Philip Heseltine, and under that name he wrote learned articles and reviews of Renaissance music. but as “Warlock” – his alter ego – he collaborated with several amazing poets incredibly lovely carols that avoid cliches and are wholly original.
